UPDATE-2/22 Welcome to our new Marketing and PR gal, Wendy Russell. We need her help, and she loves the kids and helping us at the hospitals.. it's a perfect fit! Welcome Wendy!
UPDATE 2/8 WOW. We recently went to the hospitals with our good friends and partners at Spirit Halloween, Total Nutrition, Vampire Ball & Corbetts Haunted House to present a check to each hospital through the Spirit of Children Charity 501C3.
From Shanda Pierce owner of Spirit Halloween's of Northern CA- "So proud of our 2017 team! Presented over $158,000.00 to Valley Children’s, UC Davis Children’s, and Shriners Children’s Hospitals! Thank you to Total Nutrition, Sacramento’s Vampire Ball, Goblin Gardens, & Corbett’s Haunt!! Spirit of Children ❤️ Thank you to all of our customers and employees!!"
The staff at Spirit Halloween does an AMAZING job at selling these purple pumpkins that you see on the walls of their seasonal shops. Each one of these equates to $1 or $5 donated directly to the hospitals for the Child Life Program. We decided to help several years ago though Shannon McCabe's Vampire Ball and have had many of our volunteers go to the stores and assist in selling the pumpkins! Shannon McCabe's Vampire Ball also donates about a 1/3 of the profits of the ball to the Spirit of Children. We cannot stop helping, it's just so fun!
So in comes KOV in 2017... We wanted to be able to do more throughout the year by going into the hospitals and doing fun activities with the kids. We had an ice cream party for them where Jess, from Devil May Care Ice Cream donated all the ice cream and the kids loved it! Our buddy, Gary Martin, dressed up like a pirate and we served up scoop after scoop!
Jason Ring, Wendy Russell, Leslie Breitsprecher and I all painted faces and played Halloween games with the kids one day with the Spirit Halloween Crew.
We've just purchased a really cool projector and screen and plan on doing Friday Movie afternoons at UC Davis for the kids and parents waiting on test results... We hope this will help them pass the time a little better. Stay tuned, there is so much more to come...
XOXO, Shannon McCabe, President
UPDATE 12/31- We feel we ended our first year with a BANG! We were very pleased to partner with the Crawfish and Catfish Festival who made us an awesome $3000 donation for helping them out! We started a great plan for 2018 and bought some really cool stuff to take to the hospitals... stay tuned!
UPDATE 11/26- Shannon here, so we are up to 5 Ipads now, a Yamaha piano and 2 "treasure chests" for the kids, full of so much costume jewelry and treasures... The kids LOVED these.. If you have any costume jewelry you don't want, we would LOVE to give it to the kids!
UPDATE 9/25-Our World's Greatest Ice Cream Social and our donation from the Crawfish Festival helped us to raise enough profit to purchase 5 iPads and we also got an electric piano donated! We are collecting the iPads and buying kid proof cases for them as often as possible! We'll keep you updated...
Why are we raising money? Our mission for2017 is to purchase as many IPads as we can wrangle for the kids at UC Davis Children's Hospitals and Shriner's of Northern CA.
The Ipads make lying in bed less boring, the touch screen helps with dexterity, and they are just all- around fun. So help us out if you are able! We sure do appreciate your donation!
